The first Easter meet was at Ashbourne in Derbyshire. One of the original ideas for the Easter meet was “a means of further cementing those bonds which should unite the rapidly increasing band of Clarion Cyclists”. Since 1895 there has been a National Clarion Cycling Club Easter meet every year except in 1918. The Easter Meets in 2020 and 2021 could also not be held due to Covid 19 restrictions.
In 1911 at the 17th Easter meet which was held in Warwick “each member signing on and paying the Meet levy not only received a Programme for the weekend’s events but also a Meet Ribbon to pin on”. This tradition has continued throughout the years with Allen Armstrong from Sunderland Clarion now having a collection of over 40 Easter Meet Ribbons from every Easter meet he has attended.
