Stockport Clarion Cycling Club is one of Greater Manchester's strongest and most established Cycling Clubs (established 1899), catering for all aspects of the sport:
- Road Racing: We are affiliated to British Cycling. Obtaining your racing licence from British Cycling will allow you to race with the clubs road-squad in a large number of local, national and international events.
- Time - Trialling: SCCC organise a series of evening time trials throughout the summer, and a hill climb. Joining our club allows you to race with no other affiliations and a good pint is assured afterwards. Many riders of all ages also race most weekends, notably SCCCs President and multiple British Record Holder Derek Hodgins, the only person over 60 ever to cycle 100 miles in under 4 hours.
- Track Racing: Most of the club train or race at Manchester Velodrome, where SCCC is one of the leading clubs. Also at Newcastle Track, Staffs for the Thursday night track league in the summer months
- Club Runs: Saturdays and Sundays (contact A-run@stockport-clarion.org.uk or B-run@stockport-clarion.org.uk to check). We normally have a fast & slow group going to a predetermined destination. During the racing season runs are more informal as many members are racing, but from Autumn to Spring you can be assured of a good ride with good folks.
- Club Nights: Our club night is at The Arden Arms, 23 Millgate, Stockport SK1 2LX on Wednesday nights from 8:30pm.
- MTB Rides: Club Nights are preceeded by an MTB ride, meet in the car park opposite the Arden Arms at 7pm on Wednesdays. Various great rides of between 90 mins & 2 hours or more. Contact mtb@stockport-clarion.org.uk
- Training / Touring: Several members organise regular training rides on Saturday mornings, Tuesday nights, weekends away, Thursday nights, plus the odd bit of touring/YHA weekends/holidaying/drinking.
- Social: Club get togethers are too numerous to mention. Apart from the above and National Clarion get togethers others include, annual prize presentation in December and Christmas Dinner in January (after the mad rush).
- National Clarion: Joining SCCC includes membership of the National Clarion which has over 20 regional sections throughout the UK with too many cycling and social events to mention.
- SCCC History: Stockport Clarion came into being in 1899 and, apart from a brief, rather lean spell in the 1970's, has been to the forefront of Clarion activities. SCCC reformed in 1978 and soon regained strength with an influx of youngsters who joined the Club and, under the guidance of responsible older members, became enthusiastic cyclists, not only on club runs but in time-trials, road racing, mountain biking, criterium races and cyclo-cross events.
